Waste to energy

Status: under evaluation. We are assessing the purchase of an existing, operating waste-to-energy plant. No agreement has been signed and no site has been committed to.

The logic is straightforward. Municipal solid waste is a thermal conversion problem, and thermal conversion is what this group does — the difference between a paddy straw reactor and an MSW line is feedstock handling and emissions control, not principle. We already build air pollution control systems to CPCB standards, which is the part of a waste-to-energy plant that most often determines whether it keeps running.

We are looking at operating assets rather than greenfield projects. An existing plant has a permit, a waste supply agreement and an interconnection, and those take longer to obtain than the plant takes to build. Where we would add value is in the engineering: taking a line that runs and making it run better.
